About these terms

These terms are an agreement between you and SpellSense, which runs SpellSense (https://spellsense.app). By using SpellSense you accept them. If you do not agree, please do not use the service. How we handle personal data is covered separately in ourprivacy policy.

Who can use SpellSense

Anyone can practise without an account. To create an account you must be at least13, or have permission from a parent or guardian, who then accepts these terms on your behalf.

Your account

• Give accurate details, and keep your password to yourself.
• An account is for one person. Do not share it or sign in as someone else.
• Tell us at [email protected] if you think someone else has used your account.
• You can delete your account at any time from your account page.

Friends and leaderboards

You can add friends by username and compare how many words you have practised and mastered. Keep it friendly:

• Choose a username that is not offensive, does not impersonate anyone and does not include personal details such as your full name, school or phone number.
• Do not send requests to people who do not want them.
• Do not try to inflate your scores by scripts or other automated means.

We may change a username or remove a friendship that breaks these rules.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• break the law or anyone else's rights while using SpellSense;
• try to get into accounts, systems or data that are not yours;
• overload, disrupt or scrape the service, or copy its word data, definitions or recordings in bulk;
• use SpellSense to harass or harm anyone.

Content and credits

The SpellSense software, design and text belong to SpellSense. Definitions and some pronunciations come from Merriam-Webster's dictionary APIs and remain Merriam-Webster's. Other pronunciations come from Google. The word frequency list is fromwordfreq by Robyn Speer, licensed CC BY-SA 4.0. You may use SpellSense for your own learning, teaching or tutoring, but not republish its content.

The service is provided as it is

SpellSense is free. We work to keep it accurate and available, but we cannot promise it will always be either — a definition or recording can be wrong, and the service may be unavailable or change. SpellSense is a practice tool, not a diagnosis or treatment for dyslexia or any other condition.

Our liability

As far as the law allows, we are not liable for indirect losses, or for losses caused by events outside our reasonable control. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, or takes away rights you have as a consumer.

Ending your use

You can stop using SpellSense and delete your account whenever you like. We may suspend or close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms, and will tell you why unless the law or safety prevents it.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. We will change the date at the top, and give notice on the site before a significant change takes effect. Continuing to use SpellSense afterwards means you accept the new terms.

Law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the country where the operator is established. If you live elsewhere as a consumer, you keep the protection of the mandatory laws where you live. Please contact us first at[email protected] — most problems are solved quickest that way.
